From The Secretary
We are two months into the new year and what a weather experience we are having so far. Frostbite sailing is taking a beating in the Mid Atlantic and Northeast sections of North America. As I write this, a northeast wind is whipping Tilghman Island, MD with a 26 hour horizontal snow storm and I now cannot see my car.
Most of the last few weeks have seen some terrific planning for the Marco Island Midwinters in March. The registrations are rolling in and we are all anxious to get the shorts and T's on and compete again. This should be the biggest attended regatta in NA in RC Laser history.
Jim Kaighin has organized a round robin circuit in the Bahamas and is getting some cooperative turnout. Go to the Results page and see some of their racing. Here's a shot of the Marsh Harbour event on January 30th:

On January 31st, Nick Mortgu, Hank Buchanan and I enjoyed some pool sailing and great hosting from the Fleet from Lake Naomi in the Pocono mountains of Pennsylvania. We had eight skippers racing four at a time and got ten races/20 heats in over 2 hours. This was a great way to enjoy 83 degree weather indoors. Two of the wives sailed very competitively and everyone beat me real good. I need some more pool time. Here's the fleet from the pool:

From l to r: Chris (race committee/lifeguard), Bob MacNeill, John Whipple, Nick Mortgu, Hank Buchanan (winner), Dan Neely and Dave Branning. Seated, Sandy MacNeill and Sue Neely.
The gang in Nanaimo Harbour on Vancouver Island in BC are racing regularly this winter and they are our featured Where We Sail fleet this month.
Where We Sail
Where We Sail is new to the RC Laser NA web site. Each month a North American RC Laser Fleet will be featured. To have your fleet added to Where We Sail, send your fleet information, fleet members' names, and a few photos to Mid-Atlantic Advisor Nick Mortgu mortgu@comcast.net. Let us see who you are and where you sail. Find out more about our first three featured fleets by clicking on Where We Sail in the main menu.

Hot News
The D sail has been approved by RC Laser manufacturer and the RC Laser Association, North America. They are being cut and should be ready for distribution soon. This sail will increase the RC Lasers sail inventory to four, and by adding this D sail there would be almost no wind condition that our RC Lasers can’t sail in. They have been listed on Steve Lang’s web site for $55 which includes sail numbers. You can order yours at www.sailrclaser.com
